Document Management / (Enterprise Content Management)
Document management is the category of software that helps you manage all of the unstructured information - or content - in your enterprise. This information exists in many digital forms: scanned images, text documents, engineering drawings, XML, pdf, audio and video files, and many other file types and formats.
Document Management enables massive amounts of documents to be organized and quickly accessible by creating indexes (A.K.A. Applications) that categorize documents in organizational friendly ways, such as according to customers, suppliers, members, contracts, students, etc.
Document management solutions allow you to manage relationships between mixed pieces of content, allowing a “logical document” to combine scanned images, mainframe reports, photographs, desktop PC files, and so on. The benefit of this to customers is that you can go to one source for “all” information about a topic regardless of format, origin, organization ownership, etc.
By applying comprehensive security controls, document management makes it possible to create a centralized or distributed repository of all intellectual property that can be accessed whenever, wherever and however needed.
