Document Imaging
Document imaging is both a stand-alone technology as well as a component technology in document management or ECM (Enterprise Content Management) solutions. Document imaging represents the software tools that allow organizations to take any volume of paper from a document scanner and catalog that paper on-line into logical files that can be accessed through a database index (A.K.A application). With proper security controls, document imaging applications allow organizations to both protect and deliver documents to users via their desktop computer and a browser.
When combined with advanced technologies for image processing, document imaging solutions can also be tailored to capture image information from a document and convert it into textual information for use in a variety of ways. The possible uses include uploading information from business forms into ERP, Accounting, or CRM data processing systems. Another popular use is to store a textual version of the document image into a text search engine that allows users to query for documents according to the content within the document, versus the database indexes.
